Socially engaged

CREATING SHARED VALUE

To be a Trusted Sustainability Leader, we also need to address the social aspects of sustainability. In our strategy, we therefore highlight social responsibility as a central element, with the aim of driving real change in the industry in which we operate. As part of this work, we primarily focus on being an attractive employer and on promoting fair working conditions throughout the value chain.

Be a great place to work

As a Duni Group employee, it should feel good to come to work. The most basic is, of course, that the workplace should be a safe place free from the risk of accidents. We also want to be an employer that promotes equality, inclusivity and diversity. Being a member of Duni Group should energize and enrich the working lives of all coworkers.

Promote fair work across the value chain

Ensuring that Duni Group’s operations are socially sustainable is important, but it is not enough – the entire value chain must be. Therefore, we work based on human rights due diligence, a process in which companies systematically identify, prevent, and address risks to human rights within their own operations, supply chain, and business relationships. A concrete example is that our suppliers are required to join Sedex, an organization that audits working conditions, health and safety, the environment, and business ethics. This allows us to monitor and strengthen our work on social sustainability in a structured way.

People & culture

A winning corporate culture

In accordance with our strategy, we strive to be a goal-oriented and values-driven company. Continously developing our coworkers and leaders is the key to creating a healthy culture that helps us reach our goals. Already a prize-winning employer, we want to become even better.

To realise our sustainability goals, we have to be a learning organisation where coworkers feel safe to communicate their opinions and stand up for our values.

Social Responsibility Linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

People in our company and our value chain play a vital role in achieving our sustainability goals. This puts the focus on safe and decent employment and labour standards as well as equality, inclusivity and diversity – both internally and throughout our value chain.

SDG 8

Decent work and economic growth

Safe and decent employment conditions and fair labour conditions are fundamental and contribute to sustainable economic growth and recovery. Inclusivity and diversity are also central elements.

A member of the UN Global Compact

In the fall of 2021, Duni Group joined the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. During 2022, we also joined the UNGC’s digital early adopter programme, together with a select group of leading companies.

Members agree to adapt their operations in four areas that are incorporated into their corporate strategy, culture and daily operations: human rights, labour rights, environment and anticorruption.

As a member of the UN Global Compact, we commit to working towards sustainable change. Though this is not new for us, membership shows the world what we are working towards – something positive. Since joining the UNGC, we have updated our code of conduct, which increases demands on both suppliers and our own departments.

Projects that improve the workplace

Several internal projects and cooperations build further upon and strengthen Duni Group’s focus on social responsibility.

“We are continuing, for example, to cooperate with Mitt Liv (My Life), which promotes diversity and inclusivity within the Swedish job market. Internally, we established a Diversity & Inclusion Board during the fall of 2021 in order to focus on this important area and make it easier for us to understand the various factors for success. A smaller, but still important project is our ‘buddy programme’, which we are launching organisation-wide to facilitate the introduction of new colleagues.”

How we build our sustainability competence

Competence, communication, and trust are essential to achieving our sustainability goals. We need to continously broaden and deepen our knowledge of sustainability across the entire Group. We aim for a wide engagement, where everyone contributes to improvements and can represent our sustainability work in meetings with customers, partners, and other stakeholders. To support this, in 2023 we launched a digital five-step sustainability training program for all employees.

Targets - Social responsibility (2030)

Lost time incidents resulting in absence:

<10

per 1,000 employees

Personal safety is a clear priority for a company that strives to be a trusted sustainability leader. Safe working conditions reduce absences, free up time for creativity, enable innovative solutions and more efficient work methods. Through being able to show continuous progress in the area, we are strengthening our appeal for customers looking for a partner that shares their vision and values.
