Relevo – going digital to fight plastic waste

According to the founders of Munich startup company Relevo, over 9 billion single-use containers are thrown away yearly in Germany. That equals around 1 million containers per hour. Relevo was founded in Munich in 2020, aiming to fight the issue of plastic waste using a digital and sustainable solution that makes it easy for restaurants and consumers to do the right thing – going circular.

The system uses an app where the consumer places their order, specifying that they want the food delivered in Relevo’s reusable dishware and glasses. After use, they can return the dishware and glasses to selected partners. As of 2023, the company has some 2,000 partners in more than 500 cities across Germany and is growing fast, now employing more than 45.

In 2021, Duni Group acquired 20 percent of the shares, becoming a minority owner in Relevo with a non-controlling interest. In 2024, Duni Group acquired the majority stake in the company, complementing our Food packaging business area, and adding to its wide range of sustainable solutions for take-away packaging. Through the transaction, Relevo benefits from Duni Group’s extensive market reach, which provides the possibility to quickly scale the vision of less waste and an environmentally friendly take-away experience.
